These days, when you wrap a wearable around your wrist, you would generally expect it to count your steps, monitor your heart rate and tell the time.
The Helix Wearable Cuff by Ashley Chloe Inc gives you a different reason to occupy your wrist space. The new wearable is currently running a Kickstarter campaign, and with 32 days still to go it has almost doubled its funding goal of $100,000.
The Helix Wearable Cuff is the first wrist worn device designed to resolve the issue of getting your earphones tangled up when you’re on the move.
Helix is built to be practical
The Wearable Cuff could be the answer if you are a mobile music lover prone to getting your earbuds in a tangle. There’s no doubt that every time earbuds enter the pocket a tangle is on the cards, damn, it’s almost as if pockets were invented just to tangle up your earbuds!
The Cuff houses a bluetooth headset (earbuds and mic) in a small compartment. Twists and tangles could become a thing of the past, and that goes for losing your earphones aswell.
Functional
The control box for the headset which seemingly houses the battery, mic, Bluetooth antenna, volume control, etc, hangs down under the chin, it doesn’t seem to be supported by anything other than the ears which has the potential to become annoying.
The earbuds are geared for Hi-Fi stereo sound, with frequencies ranging from 50 Hz to 20 kHz. Impendance is set at 32 ohms and harmonic distortion is under 1%. Dual Mode Bluetooth 4.1 is used to connect to up to 8 devices at a time, with a range of 30 feet. To make connecting more efficient, the headset will automatically connect to the last paired device.
You can use the Helix Wearable Cuff headset to answer or reject calls, adjust volume and play, pause and skip through tracks.
The Helix Wearable Cuff is compatible with iOS, Android and Windows Phone (I think). It is charged via a Micro-USB port on the headset, with a charge time of under one hour. The battery life is around 3 hours of play and 200 hours standby.
fashionable
Along with functionality, fashion is a key principle in the design – and lets face it, if wearable tech doesn’t look good it aint cheese! The makers of the Helix Cuff paid close attention to the aesthetics and material qualtiy to ensure the design is stylish, durable and comfortable. The one-size-fits-all Cuff is easy to fit and adjust thanks to its magnetic clasping system.
The Helix Classic Edition comes in black or white with accents of silver or champagne gold aluminum embellishments. There’s also a Gold Edition which comes in red with 18k plated-gold embellishments.
Super Early Bird prices are $99 for the Classic Edition and $269 for the Gold Edition. The Early Bird offers are being snapped up pretty quickly, so if you want one head over to kickstarter before they run out.
The expected shipping date for the Helix Cuff Wearable is December 2015.
