The Montblanc Summit is now available from select retailers. But you’ll have to go in-store to buy one, as it’s not selling online yet.

The Montblanc Summit well on its way to being the most expensive Android Wear smartwatch. But it isn’t. That title is held by the Tag Heuer Connected Modular 45.

The luxury Android watch combines fine Swiss watchmaking with Google’s smartwatch OS and is designed on the outside with inspiration from the Montblanc 1858 collection. It comes with a selection of watch faces including the classic 1858 collection, a Summit fitness style, and a Montblanc urban style.

OS and Apps

The watch runs Android Wear 2.0 and comes pre-installed with a number of apps, such as Uber, Worldtimer, and a voice activated translator among others. It also brings the goods that come with Android Wear, such as Google Assistant, handwriting recognition, complications, and access to thousands of apps.

There’s no built-in GPS on board the Montblanc Summit, but a suite of motion sensors and a heart rate monitor will keep track of your fitness and activities. There’s also an ambient light sensor on board that automatically adjusts the brightness of your screen according to the lighting conditions.

The battery life isn’t anything to rave about. The watch has a 300mAh battery capacity which lasts around a day before needing a recharge by way of magnetic charging dock.

The watch is IP68 water-resistant, so it’s no good for taking for a plunge but should survive if you get caught in some stormy weather.

Under the hood of the pricey Swiss smartwatch is a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chip, 512MB RAM and 4GB storage. It uses Bluetooth LE and WiFi for connectivity, but there’s no NFC like the latest Tag Heuer Connected.

You’d hope the $1K smartwatch has an impressive display.. It does.. A 2-point touch, 1.39-inch, 400×400 (286ppi) AMOLED touchscreen with a domed Sapphire crystal lens.

The classy Android Wear timepiece has a 46mm case with a height of 12.5mm. It either comes in stainless steel or titanium, the latter being a bit more pricey.

Prices start at £765 for the stainless steel model and regular leather strap. The Titanium model will set you back £915 and If you want a more fancy strap – such as Alligator skin (hopefully not real) you’ll need to fork out an additional £215. There are also cheaper straps available in various colors.
