We have covered quite a few smart rings recently; there’s the Kerv NFC ring that’s aiming to make stylish work of contactless payments, the Microsoft ring and Apple ring patents which point towards IoT control, and the famous Ringly which is already bringing notification alerts and charm to many a finger.
Neyya is the latest smart ring in town, and it’s already available at select stores – including Selfridges and Bloomingdales. What makes Neyya stand out from the others is its capacitive touchpad – finely tuned to respond to directional swipes and multi-pattern taps. The ring is worn on either index finger and controlled with your thumb.
The Neyya smart ring uses Bluetooth LE 4.0 to connect to your devices, allowing you to control them hands-free (minus a thumb and a finger) with a range of up to 20 feet. The ring can be used to trigger the camera on your smartphone, control your music tracks, record video with your GoPro; navigate your Roku smart TV box, Netflix menus, Hulu, Windows Media Player, and more device integrations are inbound. You can also launch Apple’s digital voice assistant Siri by tapping and holding the touchpad for 3 seconds.
Neyya is being marketed with emphasis on controlling Apple Keynote and Windows Powerpoint presentations. It aims to be the wearable replacement to yesterday’s presentation remotes by offering a more free-flowing solution to professionals from all industries – as well adding a touch of vogue to the occasion.
The Neyya smart ring isn’t all about control. When you receive incoming calls and messages the ring lets you know by vibrating. You can customize the vibration patterns and set up a VIP list so you’re only buzzed for important notifications. The ring will also buzz you for reminders, so you don’t miss your flight or daily dose of Spirulina.
It can be used to accept or reject incoming calls, and there’s an extra little feature called “Chirps” – short and friendly preset phrases that can be sent to your contacts by tapping or swiping the ring.
There are two Neyya models to choose from – titanium-plated stainless steel which costs Β£129, and 18 karat gold-plated stainless steel which costs Β£159.99. Neyya is shock-proof and water-resistant – although we’re not sure what the water-resistance rating is.
Neyya comes with a portable Micro USB charging dock. It can be fully charged in 90 minutes and will give you up to 9 days of standby time and 3 days of average use.
