New York-based startup SolidPixels Inc are applying their technical know-how to one of the world’s most popular activities.. Dancing.

SolidPixels have launched their Rhythm smart shoes on the crowdfunding platform, Indiegogo. Smart shoes are no doubt going to be a leading category in wearable technology in the near future. Merge this statistic with a mainstream activity such as dancing, and you’ve got yourself a great product.

The Rhythm smart dancing shoes are listed on Indiegogo in the Concept Stage category. This category may include mock-ups or 3D renderings that demonstrate the product’s appearance or functionality.

If they make it to production, the shoes will come with integrated electronics: ARM Cortex-M$ processor, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, gyroscope, pressure sensors, and 5 haptic motors.

Cesar Gutierrez, dance enthusiast, engineer and creator of Rhythm, said: “ Our rhythm shows make it easy for dance enthusiasts to break the curse of ‘two left feet’ and learn how to dance in a range of styles”.

The Rhythm shoes are designed to help you learn, practice and choreograph different dance styles with haptic (vibrating) feedback, progress tracking, and video lessons in the smartphone app. Dance styles include: Hip-Hop, Break, Bachata, Jazz, Waltz, Salsa, and Tango.

The companion app will offer lots of cool features to get you swinging a leg with more elegance, such as: level up badges, motion recording, dance move sharing, and friend challenges. It will also tell you which dance steps you need to improve, calories burned while dancing, total dance duration, and more.

The shoes use Bluetooth LE to connect with supported iOS and Android smartphones and tablets. The app also plays nice with Apple Health, Google Fit and MyFitnessPal.

The Indiegogo super early bird price of $150 USD is still available (at the time of writing), 50% off the future retail price of £300.

If you’re looking to impress a date you just met on Tinder, light up the floor in a club, or make less of a fool of yourself at your daughter’s wedding; these connected kicks might be the answer.
