The Sharper hybrid smartwatch by NOWA is designed for ladies and gents and offers activity tracking, notifications, camera control and tons of style..
The Sharper hybrid smartwatch is setting a new standard for “slim”, with a thickness of just 9.75mm. It’s not quite as slim as the Pebble Time Round which measures 7.5mm, but that’s not a hybrid smartwatch, anyway. Fossil and Movado are setting the benchmark for hybrids, and their offerings come quite a few mms thicker than the NOWA Sharper.
NOWA are a design studio located in Paris and their debut collection of Sharper hybrid watches for women and men are now available to pre-order on Kickstarter.
There are eight styles to choose from; with black or white dials and white, gold or silver-colored indices and interchangeable genuine Italian leather or nylon fabric straps. The watches have a 40mm case made from 316L stainless steel and a mineral glass display with Sapphire crystal coating.
There’s no touchscreen; instead NOWA are keeping things simple with an analog display and Ronda Swiss parts with smartphone controlled movement. Of course, simple doesn’t mean the Sharper watches lack in style, and no touchscreen means the battery can last up to 8 months without ever being charged.
The Sharper theme is minimal in terms of aesthetics, but it brings all the features you’d expect from a quality hybrid watch. It offers automatic time zone updates, and keeps track of your activities, exercise duration, sleep quality, inactive periods, and goals. It alerts you of incoming calls and allows to reject them. You can also use the watch to control your smartphone’s camera.
The fashion-forward hybrid is water-resistant up to 30 meters and the companion app is compatible with Android 4.3 + and iOS 8.0 +.
The watch has been two years in the making and reviewers and influencers have been providing feedback to fine tune the product.
NOWA are now asking for the help of the crowdfunding community to get their watches over the finish line. The retail price will be $199 – $229 USD depending on the model (which you will need to choose later on). The super early bird price of $99 USD is still available over at Kickstarter (at the time of writing). The estimated delivery date for Kickstarter backers is July 2017.
