Zepp Play Soccer is simply excellent news for players and coaches looking to track detailed in-game performance stats at an affordable price.

Zepp are one the world’s leaders in connected sensors, wearable tech and apps for tracking sports. PIQ are another top company in the sports tracking domain and have just shipped me one of their new kiteboarding sensors to review.. Very happy.. Need some wind.

Both Zepp and PIQ have already released tracking sensors for popular sports such as tennis as and golf, and although PIQ have been the first to venture into watersports, it’s Zepp who have endeavored to tackle what is arguably the world’s most popular sport, soccer. Or as a London boy like me would call it, football.

Zepp Play Soccer

Zepp’s new soccer tracking sensor aims to help you improve your all-round game by using the raw data collected by the gadget’s onboard 3-axis accelerometer and 3-axis gyroscope.

The soccer sensors, which come bundled with small-medium and medium-large sleeve sizes are designed to easily slip into the rear pocket of the calf sleeve on your dominant leg.

The sensors use Bluetooth LE to connect with devices running iOS 9.0 + and Android 5.0 +. The Zepp Play Soccer app allows you or someone on the sideline to record the action and create video highlights which can be analyzed and shared using the Timeline feature, so family and friends can see what’s happening.

Zepp Play Soccer has an impressive lineup of performance tracking features.

Distance Covered

The new wearable tracks your distance covered throughout the game and breaks it down into walks, runs, and sprints.

Maximum Speed

An extremely cool feature for players and spectators alike; this feature records your peak speed.

Sprints

A good feature for coaches to learn about player’s energy levels; this records how many times you sprinted throughout the game.

Kicks

The Kicks feature records the total number karate chops you perform on your opposite number. Only joking; it records the number of kicks you make throught the game on your dominant foot.

Kick Speed

Who can boot the hardest? Strikers, goalkeepers? This feature will tell you by measuring your ball-contact velocity.

Goal Conversion Rate

Apart from kicking and being married to super fit woman, the most important thing in football is scoring a goal. This feature calculates the percentage of goals scored relevant to the total number of shots.

Active Time

If you’re playing a competitive match, this feature basically states the obvious – 90 minutes. It could come in handy for training sessions though, as it tells you and your coach exactly how long you’ve been playing.

Preferred Foot

If the ball falls in front of goal, shadowed by a wall of beastly defenders and a massive keeper, you hope the player it falls to is good with both feet. This feature allows you to select and track your dominant foot and add a second sensor to help you improve with your weaker foot (I think).

Team

The Team mode allows multiple users to connect and view each others stats and combine videos to create a summary of your team.

Other features include a leaderboard, personal bests, win rate against other teams, and tagging key plays throughout the game.
