Bose are known for high-quality when it comes to all things audio, and now they’re moving into the fitness tracking and biometrics space. Yesterday Bose announced two new wireless additions to their SoundSport earphones line up, SoundSport Wireless and SoundSport Pulse Wireless.

Bose say “SoundSport Pulse are exclusively designed for exercise and will reset the expectations for wireless workouts.” The earphones add heart rate monitoring and biometric tracking to a special design which prevents them dislodging from your ear holes while you’re grinding on the treadmill; plus all the features found on the non-biometric SoundSport Wireless.

The new earbuds have Bluetooth and NFC connectivity. The NFC is onboard to make the Bluetooth pairing quicker and easier; by placing the SoundSport inline remote within NFC range (4 inches) of your smartphone automatically connects and disconnects the Bluetooth.

The NFC function in iPhone 6/6 Plus only enables Apple pay and doesn’t facilitate pairing. If you don’t have an NFC-enabled smartphone, the earphones’ voice prompts will instruct you how to pair with Bluetooth.

SoundSport’s built-in mic means you can take phone calls hands-free and get caller ID via voice notification. As well as regular phone calls, the earphones work with VoIP apps such as Skype and FaceTime.

With the inline remote you can control music and videos, answer and end phone calls, and activate voice commands with Siri, Google Now and voice dial.

Bose’s new smart earphones can be paired to more than one device at the same time thanks to Multi-point technology, so if you’re watching a video on your iPad and get an incoming call on your iPhone, the video will automatically pause until you’ve finished chin wagging.

The music mammoths have released their own Bose Connect app to work with the SoundSport Pulse and deliver heart rate data in real time. Endomondo, Runkeeper and more of the best third-party apps also work with Bose SoundSport Pulse.

The Bose Connect app is compatible with Android 4.3 + and iOS 8.0 +

Battery Life

The SoundSport Wireless offer up to 6 hours of battery life between charges, the SoundSport Pulse offer up to 5 hours. The charging time is around 2 hours.
