Lenovo had some new gadgets to show off at their Tech World 2015 event in Beijing a few days ago. Amongst other innovative gizmos, wearable tech took to stage in the form of a new concept smartwatch with dual-screens.

According to its makers, the Lenovo “Magic View” smartwatch will be the first of its kind, with a second screen that functions as a virtual interactive display. Using optical reflection, Magic View creates a virtual image around 20 times larger than the standard smartwatch display.

The virtual image can be viewed by looking through a viewfinder located below the main watch-face. When the user rotates their field of view the virtual image shifts along with them creating a 3D effect.

It looks like Lenovo are stepping towards the transformation of wearable technology by attempting to bring virtual reality to the smartwatch domain, and at the same time addressing the issue that is perhaps the most prevalent with smartwatches; screen size!

According to Lenovo, the virual reality smartwatch experience enables the user to engage with their digital media, such as photos, videos, maps etc in a more immersive fashion than any existing smartwatch.

Apparently 120 patents have been filed to make the Lenovo Magic View Smartwatch a reality for consumers. It remains to be seen whether or not it makes it onto the shelves, and if it’s any good! Either way it gives us a glimpse of what lies in store for wearables from companies such as Lenovo.
